Polishing accessories – masking tape and polishing pad cleaning

Details determine how cleanly and safely polishing goes – without masking off plastic edges or regularly cleaning the pad, the results deteriorate faster than you might expect.

Masking tape

Before polishing, it’s a good idea to cover the edges of plastic parts, rubber seals, and sharp trim with tape – this protects them from accidental contact with the rotating pad and prevents dried polish from working its way into these areas. Different tape widths (5–36 mm) cover both small details and larger transitions.

Cleaning polishing pads

Dried polish in the pad reduces its effectiveness and can cause uneven polishing. A pad brush combs out dried residue while the polisher is running, allowing the pad to absorb fresh polish again.

When to use the accessories

Always apply masking tape before starting work on the area, and clean the pad regularly during polishing – ideally after each panel or whenever you notice it’s no longer picking up polish properly.
