Plastics on bumpers, side skirts, spoilers, or window trim are among the most stressed parts of the bodywork – solar UV radiation discolors them to gray over time, oxidation robs them of their shine, and frequent washing dries them out until they crack. Unlike interior plastics (which are covered in a separate Plastic Parts category), exterior plastics are primarily about weather resistance, not just appearance.
The solution is two-fold – first, thoroughly degrease the plastic and get rid of the old, grayed layer using a product like Plastic Cleaner Boys or a universal APC cleaner, then apply protection. Classic dressings like Koch Chemie Plast Star or Auto Finesse Revive will restore a deep black color to the plastics for weeks, while ceramic protection such as Gyeon Q² Trim EVO maintains the effect for months and withstands rain better. In addition, plastics in the engine bay require a special product like Koch Chemie Motorplast, which can also handle the higher temperatures under the hood.
