Washing gloves and sponges

The sponge belongs in the past – it traps dirt on its surface and then pushes it back into the paintwork with the next pass. Wash mitts significantly reduce this risk.

In this category, you’ll find two types: microfiber mitts with a dense, shorter pile that are durable, easy to wash and ideal for frequent use, and chenille mitts, whose long, “noodle-like” fibers hold a huge amount of foam and water, making them among the gentlest options for washing paintwork. Both types are suitable for the two-bucket wash method. Our own NOX brand offers both types – the microfiber FiberWash mitt and the chenille ChenilleWash Blue or ChenilleWash Black.

How to choose a wash mitt and wash your car without risking scratches to the paintwork

Car wash mitts replace sponges because their dense pile keeps dirt away from the paint instead of simply moving it across the surface. The main differences between the types are absorbency, softness, and durability.

Microfiber wash mitts

The dense, shorter pile stands up to regular washing without wearing out quickly, and the mitt is easy to wash and dry. A good all-purpose choice if you wash your car often and want a mitt that will last a long time. This category includes FiberWashfrom our own NOX brand.

Chenille mitts

The long, noodle-like fibers of chenillehold much more foam and water than standard microfiber and are extremely gentle on paint—the noodles bend as you wipe, rather than applying pressure directly to a single point. The downside is that they require slightly more care, as the fibers tend to tangle in the wash. Premium examples of this type are ChenilleWash Blueand ChenilleWash Blackfrom our own NOX range.

The two-bucket method and wash mitts

Dip the mitt in a bucket of car shampoo, wash a body panel, then rinse it in a second bucket of clean water before loading it with suds again. This rinses out any trapped dirt and prevents you from transferring it back onto the paint with your next pass.

Caring for your wash mitt

Like other microfiber items, wash the mitt separately at max. 40°C, without fabric softener, using a syntheticscycle. After washing, don’t wring out chenille mitts; leave them to air-dry so the noodles don’t tangle.
