Mineral deposits

Mineral deposits (water spots) form when wash water or rainwater dries on the paint before you have a chance to wipe it off, leaving white spots from minerals dissolved in the water on the surface. If you repeatedly leave the spots to dry in the sun, the minerals can etch slightly into the paint, and simply wiping them with a cloth will no longer remove them.

Descaler is a product specifically designed to dissolve these deposits – spray it onto the dried spots, leave it to work briefly, then rinse it off. Alongside the standard Descaler, you can also find Gyeon Q2M WaterSpot, or Koch Chemie Finish Spray Exterior, which combines water spot removal with a finishing detailer function.

How to remove water stains and limescale

Water spots are more than just a cosmetic flaw—the longer they’re left to dry on the paintwork, the harder they are to remove.

How mineral deposits form

When you wash your car or it rains and you leave the water to dry on the paintwork in the sun, minerals dissolved in the water settle on the surface as white spots. They most commonly form on the hood, roof, and windows, where water dries the fastest.

Descaler for dried water spots

Spray Descaler or Gyeon Q2M WaterSpot directly onto the dried spots, leave it to work for a few minutes, then rinse it off—one application is enough for fresher spots, while older, deeper deposits may need to be treated more than once.

Prevention is easier than removal

The best defense is to thoroughly dry your car with a microfiber towel or drying blower after washing, before the water has a chance to dry. Koch Chemie Finish Spray Exterior also works as a quick detailer after drying, giving the paintwork a final touch-up.
